Struck By Object
Struck by object is a category that is listed in the Occupational Injury and Illness Classification System (OIICS) of the Bureau of Labor Statistics. This classification system is used for the various types of things that can cause a worker to be injured in a work-related accident. When a worker sustains a work-related injury, a category in the OIICS that describes how the accident happened has to be used.
Struck by object is the category that is used when a worker is injured by being struck by an object. This means that an object hit's the worker, rather than the worker hitting the object.
Struck by object is divided into several sub-categories. These are:
- Struck by object, unspecified - This is used when the object that strikes a worker is not identified or specified.
- Struck by falling object - This is used when the object that hits a worker was dropped or fell from some kind of surface.
- Struck by rolling, sliding objects on floor or ground level - This is used when a worker is hit by some type of object that is on the same level as the worker.
- Struck by object, n.e.c. - This indicates that a worker was struck by an object that is not elsewhere classified (n.e.c.), not listed anywhere else.
- Struck by flying object - This can refer to:
- Struck by flying object, unspecified - The flying object that hits a worker is not listed or specified.
- Struck by dislodged flying object, particle - This refers to a worker being struck by something coming out of some type of tool or machine, or somehow gets dislodged in some other way.
- Struck by discharged object or substance - This is used when an object or substance is discharged in some way.
- Struck by flying object, n.e.c. - This is used when a worker is hit by a flying object that is not elsewhere classified (n.e.c.), not listed anywhere else.
- Struck by swinging or slipping object - This can refer to:
- Struck by swinging or slipping object, unspecified - The swinging or slipping object that strikes a worker is not identified or specified.
- Struck by or slammed in swinging door or gate - A swinging door or gate is what hits or slams into a worker.
- Struck by slipping handheld object - This is used when a worker is struck by an object that slips out of someone else's hand.
- Struck by swinging or slipping object, n.e.c. - This is used when the swinging or slipping object is not elsewhere classified (n.e.c.), not listed somewhere.
