Definition of Claims Adjuster
Claims adjuster, also known as an administrator or examiner, are the various terms that are used in states to identify the person who handles your workers compensation claim and makes the initial determination as to whether your claim is accepted or denied. The claims adjuster/administrator/examiner works for your employer or your employer's workers compensation insurance company.
It is important for you to remember that this individual's job is to try and settle your workers' compensation claim as quickly as possible and for as little as possible. No matter how kind and cordial a claims adjuster may be, they do not have your best interests at heart. The claims adjuster is not your friend. Never forget, the claims adjuster works for the insurance company, not you. If there is any conflict or disagreement at all concerning the benefits that the claims adjuster says you are entitled to or if the claims adjuster denies your claim, the best thing to do is to get a workers' compensation attorney to represent you so that you will receive all of the workers' compensation benefits that you deserve.
