Definition of Authorized Medical Care Medical Provider

Authorized medical care/medical provider is medical care that your receive from a medical provider when you are injured in a work-related accident or illness and you apply for workers' compensation benefits. The reason why it is referred to as authorized medical care provided by an authorized medical provider is because it is medical care that is provided by a medical provider that is authorized and approved by your employer's workers' compensation insurance company. In many states, there is a list of medical providers that are authorized to provide authorized medical care that you may have the option of choosing from.

If you apply for workers' compensation and receive medical care that is not approved or authorized by the insurance company or you receive care from someone who is not an authorized medical provider, this can seriously hurt your claim and may cause it to be denied. Therefore, it is extremely important to the acceptance of your claim by the insurance company that your receive only authorized medical care from an authorized medical provider.
